When Ethan and Sheridan first started looking for their home, they assumed they’d end up buying established.
Like many first home buyers, they spent time exploring what was already on the market. But as they compared their options, it became clear they were either stretching their budget or compromising on the features they wanted most.
Now almost a year after moving into their own new home in Sinagra, they’re looking back on the decisions that brought them here, and why they’d make the same choice again.

More than a place to live
For Ethan and Sheridan, the biggest drawcard wasn’t just getting into the property market. It was the opportunity to create a home that reflected how they wanted to live. Rather than settling for someone else’s selections, they could choose their own finishes, colours and design features from the very beginning.
We definitely wanted to get into our own home, but we were looking at established and it was a bit out of our reach. Having the choice on selections and colours, we could design it how we wanted.”
Before they even stepped through the doors of New Choice Homes, they’d already been doing their research. Positive reviews, home designs and a strong base of inclusions gave them confidence that they were making the right choice.

Finding the right block, with the right support
For first home buyers, one of the biggest unknowns isn’t just choosing a builder. It’s knowing where to start.
That’s where Trevor came in. From their first conversation, Ethan and Sheridan felt supported, with honest advice and quick communication guiding them through the process. Within the first couple of weeks, Trevor had also helped them secure a block that suited both their budget and the lifestyle they wanted.
He was warm, welcoming, and really open and honest. He found land for us within the first week or two. It definitely exceeded our expectations.
That support extended beyond finding land. Working together, they tailored the floorplan to include a theatre without sacrificing the backyard space they wanted, creating a home that suited the way they wanted to live.
Just little tips and tricks for build designs and selection tips… you look back now and go, we wouldn’t have known anything about that. It’s actually really practical and helpful
Confidence grows at every stage
Looking back, it wasn’t one particular milestone that stood out to Ethan and Sheridan. It was having someone to guide them through every conversation, decision and step of the process. Even when they had what they described as “small” or “silly” questions, they always felt comfortable reaching out.
It was always a timely response and always helpful. Having that support was a big one for us.

Ten months later, it still feels like home
Today, Ethan and Sheridan have been living in their home for almost ten months, and many of the decisions they made early on continue to shape how they live every day.
The theatre has become their favourite place to unwind after work, while the home’s street appeal and landscaping remain among their favourite features.
But perhaps the moment that stays with them the most isn’t tied to a particular room. It’s the feeling they had walking through the front door for the first time.
It just felt like a relief. We were finally in our own space.
For Ethan and Sheridan, building wasn’t simply about owning a house. It was about creating a home that felt like theirs from day one.
Thinking about building your first home?
If you’re weighing up whether to buy established or build new, Ethan and Sheridan’s story is a reminder that exploring your options can open doors you might not have considered. With the right guidance, building can be more than choosing a floorplan. It can be an opportunity to create a home that fits your lifestyle from day one.
